I can guess what you are thinking, what does she have to say about a song released in 1991? Go with me on this one. I personally love the holidays, faith, family, and friends for weeks on end, but unfortunately life changes. We grow up, we lose loved ones, and life keeps moving wether we are ready or not. I have realized something recently, we may have a tough time with these changes but that is temporary. Amid all celebrations, God can use anything to give us that dash of hope that we need to make it through the day. And that hope came in the form of Apple Music shuffle this time around. You guessed it. Michael Bolton, “Time, Love and Tenderness.” Have you listened to the lyrics? Here is a refresher.
“So you say that you can’t go on
Love left you cryin’
And you say all your hope is gone
And what’s the use in tryin’?
What you need is to have some faith
Shake off those sad blues
Get yourself a new view, oh
Nothing is as sad as it seems, you know
‘Cause someday you’ll laugh at the heartache
Someday you’ll laugh at the pain
Somehow you’ll get through the heartbreak
Somehow you can get through the rain
When love puts you through the fire
When love puts you to the test
Nothing cures a broken heart
Like time, love, and tenderness
You think your world is over
Baby, just remember this
Nothing heals a broken heart
Like time, love, and tenderness
Time, love, and tenderness
I understand how you’re feeling now
And what you’ve been through
But your world’s gonna turn around
So, baby, don’t you be blue
All it takes is a little time
To make it better
The hurt won’t last forever, oh
All the tears are gonna dry, you know
‘Cause someday you’ll laugh at the heartache
Someday you’ll laugh at the pain
You may be down on your luck
But, baby, that old luck’s gonna change
When love puts you through the fire
When love puts you to the test
Nothing cures a broken heart
Like time, love, and tenderness
You think your world is over
Baby, just remember this
Nothing heals a broken heart
Like time, love, and tenderness”
— (Diane Eve Warren, “Time, Love and Tenderness,”- Time, Love and Tenderness, Michael Bolton, 1991)
The shock of change is temporary, and necessary for God to move us forward. To move us forward he has to break into our comfort zone. He is with us through the entire process. He never leaves or forsakes us.
“But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord.”
Malachi 3:2-3 ESV
Life will put us through the fire. But with the refiner watching over us we will walk out of the fire stronger and more valuable than ever. I would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and a blessed and happy New Year! Have a blessed night y’all!
