Restless Spirit.

It’s 3 in the morning. You have been asleep and are suddenly awake. You lay there desperate to get back to the precious sleep you were just experiencing. I once heard it said that when you wake up in the middle of the night unexpectedly, that God has something important he wants to tell you. But what happens when you wake up and feel like everything around you is wrong? Maybe that is our cue to open our minds and hearts and seek God further than we have before.

“Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”

—Psalm 43:3-5 ESV

You were not made to stay in your comfort zone. You were made to be bold and to share your faith with the world. But sometimes we need to recharge our own spirit. Sometimes the disquiet you feel in the wee hours are your spirit telling you you need time with your Heavenly Father. You cannot pour from an empty cup. You cannot help others or boldly proclaim the gospel of Christ when you yourself are drained. Psalm 116:5-9 says, “Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling; I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.” Have a blessed day y’all!
