Have you ever thought your prayer life has gotten a bit monotonous? You feel like you are bothering God because you pray the same hollow words over and over. I recently discovered something that changes all of that. They are called dangerous prayers. These are radical, life changing, turn life upside down prayers. These are the prayers you pray when mountains move and when walls come tumbling down like Jericho. The thing about these prayers is you have to accept that you will be changed when praying them. God will move and God will work in your life but that will require some work on your part. Before Jesus ascended into heaven he told the disciples that he would send a comforter to be with us until he returns. That comforter has the power to change not only our lives but the lives of people around us.
“And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
—Mark 11:22-25 ESV
The reason it’s called dangerous prayers is because when you pray these prayers not only will your circumstances change, but you will change. When praying these prayers, expect God to move and expect things to happen but be warned things may not happen the way you expect. You see in order for true dangerous prayers to work God has to work and refine you. Before you can bring down the mountains, you must humble yourself before God and accept the fact that you can do nothing in your own power. You are the vessel he chooses to use. You are made to be his hands and feet in this world. When you humble yourself before God, he can work and refine you from the inside out. As it says in Ezekiel 36:26, “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” God will move, and your life will change. Because sometimes the thing that needs to be changed in your circumstances is you.
